Two city charter questions go before Miami voters Aug. 18

Early voting for the August 18 primary and city referendum runs Monday, August 3 through Sunday, August 16, and City of Miami voters may cast a ballot at any countywide early voting site. Hours shift across the two weeks: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. from August 3 through 7, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 8 and 9, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from August 10 through 14, then 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 15 and 16. Miami City Hall is not being used because of its limited capacity for the turnout expected; the Historic Garage at 3250 South Miami Avenue takes its place, on the same property as the former Museum of Science. Other sites inside the city are the Stephen P. Clark Government Center at 111 NW 1st Street, the Hispanic Branch Library and the Lemon City Branch Library. A staffed vote-by-mail drop box is available at each early voting location during operating hours, and mail ballot requests close at 5 p.m. on August 6. (City of Miami)

The Underline Market opens its run on Saturday, July 25, and returns every Saturday through October 10, from 2 to 8 p.m. It sets up at the Inter Stage at 805 SW 1st Avenue, near Southwest Ninth Street, with rotating vendors selling fresh produce, prepared foods, baked goods, artisanal cheeses, honey, handmade crafts, artwork, clothing and accessories. Arriving without a car works cleanly: the site is reachable from the Brickell Metrorail Station, with bicycle racks and public parking available at Brickell City Centre and Mary Brickell Village. Louis Tomlinson's July 24 stop on the How Did We Get Here? World Tour will not happen at Kaseya Center. The date was cancelled there on July 20 because of production challenges and has been moved to Watsco Center. Ticket holders will receive information at the email address used to buy their tickets, and anyone who purchased through a third-party resale site needs to contact that point of purchase directly for details on what happens next. After Thursday, July 23, the City of Miami Commission has no August meetings on its 2026 calendar. The next regular meeting is Thursday, September 10, followed by Thursday, September 24. All City of Miami Commission meetings take place at 9 a.m. at Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive. For anyone tracking a zoning, permitting or budget matter through the city, that leaves a stretch from July 23 to September 10 with no regular commission date on the books. (City of Miami)

PopUp Bagels is opening a Brickell location. The concept centers on hot, whole bagels designed to be torn apart rather than sliced, so the bagel arrives intact and the pulling apart is left to whoever ordered it. Two questions are on the City of Miami ballot for August 18. The first would amend Charter Sections 4(b), 7 and 12 to move general and runoff elections for mayor and city commissioners from odd-numbered years to even-numbered years, beginning in 2034 and 2036, so those elections coincide with a statewide or countywide election; as an adjustment, officials elected in 2031 and 2033 would serve three-year terms instead of four. The second asks whether the city should enter a 40-year management agreement with Global Spectrum L.P. to activate and manage events at the Historic Miami Marine Stadium and Flex Park at 3501 Rickenbacker Causeway, with the city receiving 93 percent of gross sales after a $33,333 monthly management fee and 85 percent of sponsorship revenues, and Global Spectrum paying the city up to $10 million toward restoration of the stadium. A free Youth Marathon Performance from the International Ballet Festival takes the Tina Hills Pavilion at Bayfront Park on Sunday, August 2, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. The outdoor program spotlights young dancers based in Miami and is presented in collaboration with Dancetown Miami, Dance Attack, Dance Empire, St. Lucie Ballet and the International Dance Academy. Unidos Por Venezuela, billed as a live benefit concert and national telethon, is set for Kaseya Center on Sunday, August 16, with a 6 p.m. start. Tickets are on sale, and the date falls on the final day of early voting for the August 18 election. (Kaseya Center)
